What are mosquitoes?

Mosquitoes are a well-known pest in Granbury, TX because of how annoying they are. There are over 170 mosquito species in North America; however, not all bite people. Also, only female mosquitoes take blood meals, while males consume nectar and honeydew.

These flying insects are least active during the afternoon because they become dehydrated quickly in sunlight. Research has shown that dehydrated female mosquitoes become more aggressive in their search for a blood meal.

Are mosquitoes dangerous?

Globally, mosquitoes are the most dangerous creatures alive because they are vectors of deadly diseases. In North America, these pests can spread Zika, dengue fever, malaria, and transmit dog heartworms. However, these diseases are not common in the U.S., except for heartworms in dogs.

While mosquitoes can become a problem inside, they are primarily an issue outside. Breeding sites can include birdbaths, ponds, pools, ground holes, and other stagnant water. Also, they take refuge during the day in shaded areas such as thick foliage, yard debris, and tall grass.

How do I get rid of mosquitoes?
